Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund, Inc. is grateful for the donations we have received from The Thomas A. Plein (TAP) Foundation Ltd. This foundation has donated approximately $50,000 over the past 2 years to help us “Protect Youth Brains”.

These donations are allowing us to provide Concussion Goggles to 50 schools in Marion County (Indiana) educating over 38,000 students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade about Traumatic Brain Injury.

Fatal Vision® Concussion Goggles help participants understand the potentially debilitating effects of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head or body and promotes adherence to a doctor’s prescribed recovery protocol. These goggles cause participants to experience the following TBI symptoms:

  • Feeling of dizziness
  • Visual disconnect
  • Disorientation and loss of spatial awareness
  • Hesitation, apprehension, confusion and lack of confidence while doing the activities

  2. Support health care service organizations specifically to provide financial support for individuals needing health care but have demonstrated the financial need to secure such service.

  4. Support organizations, not fitting criteria 1, 2 or 3, that are supported by a current board member and whereas the mission of the organization intersects with the specific purposes of the TAP FOUNDATION.

Dave Naumcheff is a Board Member of both the TAP FOUNDATION and Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund, Inc. and was instrumental in helping us obtain these donations. Dave was a classmate of Dave Duerson from 7th grade through high school and the two were teammates in three different sports during those six years. They worked together at the annual Dave Duerson Football Camps and maintained a friendship throughout their adult lives.

We would like to sincerely thank both Dave Naumcheff and the TAP FOUNDATION for their generosity and desire to help the children, parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, coaches, and Principals of various schools learn about the effects of Traumatic Brain Injury on the K-12 students’ evolving brains. So much attention has been given to athletes, but we all know that Concussions can happen in the home, on the playground, or even being involved in a car accident. Together, we are striving to ensure that ALL children are educated about concussions.
