Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund, Inc. is partnering with CAP (Concussion Awareness & Prevention) to spread Concussion Awareness in both South Florida and California.
Mike and Lori Duerson recently attended the CAP Campaign Kickoff Event in Boca Raton, FL. Mrs. Lindsey Berman (Mrs. South Florida International) has begun the CAP Initiative.

The mission of this Initiative is to create widespread awareness of the growing safety concerns associated with the concussions our student athletes suffer from. Through our tireless work, our hope is parents, coaches along with student athletes themselves will gain a true understanding of what a concussion is and the importance of following proper “Return-to-Play” and “Return-to-Learn” protocol to prevent the effects of concussions from being devastating and life changing. “When in doubt, sit them out”. CAP has reached the “finish line” when concussion safety is a staple component of our student athletes’ sports involvement. It is our goal through community support, partnerships and donations to supply every elementary and middle school with Concussion Goggles to utilize as a teaching tool focused on concussion awareness and also to provide for ImPACT Baseline Testing to be administered to all 5th grade, middle school, and high school student athletes to assist health care professionals in identifying the effects of the injury and making a more informed “Return-to-Play” and “Return-to-Learn” decision.
This campaign includes the CAP Challenge (Similar to the ALS Ice Bucket challenge) and is open to individuals and teams and schools and leagues throughout South Florida and California. The Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund will be working with CAP to implement this campaign in the Indiana schools also.
